New, Awesome, Google Maps interface?

New Google Maps - Michigan

So I pull up Google Maps today to find a Taco Bell (because the one near me was recently torn down to make way for a BIGGER Taco Bell, but it still not finished), and I am greeted with what looks like a simplified version of the site.

Upon further inspection, it is more featureful, and just visually simplified.

This new Google Maps now contains a Terrain View, can pull in Wikipedia articles for all of the locations on the map, and pulls images from a new Google service called Panoramio.

It is pretty friggin sweet.

Take a look at this screen shot of the terrain map, loaded with Wikipedia articles & photos: http://nexdot.net/gmaps_new_wikipedia_and_photos.jpg

Facebook Chat is my new favorite stalk tool!

Facebook Chat.

Facebook Chat

One Word: Awesome.

Not because I can instantly chat with friends, but because I can see my friends activity on facebook LIVE. I can see when they sign on, when they go idle, and I can see their live mini-feed within the chat window. For Facebook, this is revolutionary.

So having the news feed and mini-feed was one thing. Having things like FriendFeed and all these different RSS feeds for updates is great… But having LIVE, REAL-TIME updates brings stalking to an even higher level. I don’t care what you did 5 minutes ago, or 2 hours ago… I want to know what you are doing RIGHT NOW.

So, where is my live twitter updates (more real-time than an RSS feed & more accessible than an SMS)? I want PUSH updates. Everything needs to be pushed to me. I shouldn’t have to PULL down all of my valuable stalking information.

eBay going solo with Affiliate Network, calling it Partner Network

eBay has just announced that they will be leaving Commission Junction on May 1, 2008!

They will be managing their own affiliate network beginning April 1, 2008. They have named it the eBay Partner Network (EPN). The new network will allow them to better manage their affiliate data, and better serve reports to affiliates. eBay has classically had issues with CJ and their reporting system. Maybe EPN will finally resolve these types of issues!

They claim the payout will not be changing. They have also announced some new features that will be available, right off the bat, through EPN:

  • Easy global registration to multiple countries simultaneously
  • New, targeted banners and rich media creatives
  • New landing page optimization and geo-targeting capabilities
  • More detailed reporting capabilities for eBay’s programs

Also, for all of you who properly convert your existing CJ affiliate accounts to EPN, you will receive a 5% bonus on all April affiliate traffic!

To properly convert your account, follow these steps:

  • Register with eBay Partner Network on April 1, 2008
  • Confirm your registration, and obtain your new identifiers
  • Update your links with your new identifiers
  • Reminder: Please plan to complete migration by May 1, 2008
